Week 103 (Landed...Ben Folds)

Hey! Well, one last chance to dance and I'll be doin it here in Mesa, AZ. Honestly, it has come SO fast that I don't have much to say about it. At one moment you're like, "Woah, it is getting close! 5 months, 3 months, 2!" But the closer you get the harder you try and ignore it until you're like me, less than a week away and I don't feel like it is happening. One thing more than all else that this experience winding down is teaching me is the important role of the Spirit in Enduring to the End. There are many thoughts, dreams, worries, needs, the list goes on... that pass through ones mind. As we try our sincere best to finish with honor and with an eye single to the glory of God, it is the Spirit that keeps us in line. It is the Spirit that lets us know what we should think, what we should let into our heart, what we should do, what to watch out for so that we stay diligent and not distracted. For me it is of the utmost importance to give my all till the end. For that I am so grateful that my Father in Heaven has provided me with the greatest help which is the Gift of the Holy Ghost. I'm not perfect but it has help me be the best I can and will continue to help me to the end as long as I hearken; that is, to listen, understand and then act. Similarly, I believe it plays the same role on a big and small scale throughout our life. The Lord asks us to be obedient to the end and to come home with clean hands and pure hearts. It is only through the Holy Spirit that this can be done. And when it is in our life, and when we pay heed to it's promptings, this journey through life becomes exactly what it should be; one of love, joy, peace and faith (Gal. 5:22) because the Spirit is with us. Our Heavenly Father wants this life to be all that we hope it will be. With the Gospel of Jesus Christ it can be. I know that He watches over us and His hand is always stretched out towards us. We just need to take hold. I love my Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. It is my greatest prayer that I serve them well always, until the great and last day when I am called to our heavenly home. I love this work and I love each of you. Thanks for spending these 2 years with me. I'll see you on the other side ;) So come pick me up... hahA

Week 102 (I've Never Seen Wonderful... Rascal Flatts)

Hello all! Well another good week has gone by! Some of the big events being that yesterday we had interviews with President Howes which was nice. It was a bitter-sweet reunion though because they had me give my departing testimony. I guess I'm glad that I got to do it later than sooner though since I have been trying to keep it from the zone that I'm goin. hehe. Today we go to go to the temple. It was neat because Elders Ries, Scott and Nielsen were there. The last time that we were all together in the temple was in Utah. The strange part was that it felt like just yesterday. We looked the same, the spirit was the same, but the cool thing is that there are so many stories and experiences that are unseen on the surface. That is what makes life interesting, especially when I think about missionaries. Knowing what I know now about what it is like thus far, when you look at the face of one who has spent this time in the service of the Lord, you can't even begin to comprehend what that means for them. So many personal battles, and struggles; triumphs and victories. I love what the Lord makes out of us in this time. I love what He makes out of us in this life. We go through so many experiences so that He might shape us into the right thing. We all have stories to tell. We can never think we know somebody too well. Through the refiners fire of the Lord, we become something of infinite value and infinite worth that is beyond comprehension of the human eye. Through it all however, He knows us and He understands us, every last part of who we are. I'm not sure if I'm making sense, but I just feel that life is such a wonderful chance we have to become something of infinite worth in His hands. And not because we're perfect. But rather, because every flaw that makes our life ours, is what charts our course and marks our path, teaching us how to one day be like He who IS perfect. I know that Heavenly Father has a purpose for all of us and that we are beautiful in His eyes. We simply must go forward with faith, trusting in what He is shaping us to be. It's wonderful.

A couple other details before I go...this week we got to take Hno. Fuentes with us to a couple of lessons. He was baptized about 6 weeks ago and it is such a joy for him to be able to come and share his testimony. I love this work! It is what the Lord wants for me. Take care until next time!

Week 101 (Stop This Train...JM)

Fam! Hey! Well another week in Mesa Arizona and dry as a desert this week ;) hehe, anyways, things are going good here. We are seeing some good progress in the people that the Lord has blessed us with. One of my favorite things to do as a missionary is be able to see how time and time again the key to conversion is a testimony of the Book of Mormon and of the Restoration. Coming off of the tail of conference I found a scripture that meant a lot to me. I hope I cite it right but I believe it is 1 Nephi 10: 17-19. It is a great scripture that shows us what a great opportunity that we have to gain or develop a testimony of something after hearing the testimony and words of others. Nephi heard his father speak of his vision and Nephi too wanted to know and feel. He does this earlier on in the Book of Mormon too and his heart is softened as he is visited by the Spirit of the Lord. We too can have these personal moments where on the wings of inspiration shared with us by another, we ourselves take flight as the conviction of the Spirit takes us to personal heights that we have never found before. Not only do I think it wise to pray for the same conviction that we hear from others, but necessary. For until it is our own, it means nothing. In those moments when someone speaks, and you feel it...write it down, remember it and live it. Preach My Gospel tells us that applying the scriptures is to connect the bridge understanding them and living them. Whether from times of old or today as we apply the scriptures that we have been given from the Lord, we will feel the Holy Ghost working in us to develop our testimonies, making us firm and immovable. I love this gospel. I love the power that it has to work change in our lives because of the power to change that there is in Christ. This is His work and we are His servants. Until next time!

Week 100 (Cliffs of Dover...Johnson)

Hey all! Well another great week gone by! This week as you might know, was especially exciting due to conference! I loved it! It was especially exciting because we were able to bring someone that we are teaching. Her name is Ana and she said that she really enjoyed it. She brought her 6 year-old who was VERY well behaved. The whole week from last Wednesday to this has been pretty crazy because we had trainings on Thursday and Friday. I enjoyed it for many obvious reasons, but a more unique reason was that Elder Shiffler was up from San Luis where he has been for 9 months and we got to go to our favorite hot dog place for lunch. It was about the time that we became companions a year ago so it was like a blast from the past; weather and all. Speaking of weather, yesterday was crazy. Arizona always gets destroyed when a taste of weather comes. It just doesn't know what to do with itself. There were a series of hard showers and just after the first one which lasted about 20 minutes or less, some of the streets were completely flooded and looked more like little streams. hehe, you would think that they would have that solved by now. Oh well. It ended up that branches and trees fell everywhere like always, but to add to the norm of rain showers, 6 power lines split in half. It made me laugh even though it is actually pretty serious. Nothing lasts in the rain here. This next week we will be singing at the baptism of a little girl from the ward. Haha, we shall see how that goes. Things look like they will go great as long as I give my all! I'm excited. I hope that you are all doing well and that you found the answers that you needed in conference. Bye!

p.s. congrats to Elder Stroh on your marriage ;)

Week 99 (California...P.P)

Hey! To start off, I don't want you to think I'm trunky from the titles that I will have on the coming e-mails. haha, they are just songs that I thought would go perfectly, that's all. Anyways, this week has been good. It is interesting to see the trials that come near the end. I have determined to improve the work in very specific areas and in these same areas, obstacles are surfacing. However, that is the work of the Lord. It is not easy to do what you should and what is best but it is always worth it. There are a few different people that we are working with and praying for so that they can enter the waters of baptism. As I review all the things that I know bring success to conversion, it is personal worthiness, the Book of Mormon, and solid, prayerful fellowship. As we work with the members, testify of holy scripture and live worthily to let the Spirit confirm that message we bring, great things happen. The Lord lays out everything for us. We just simply have to live it. I am so excited for this weekend where we can listen to the voice of living prophets. I am excited to bring people to see them for the first time. I hope that you all find it to be a time of revelation and change. Take care!

Week 98 (..)

hey, not much time to write because I have to go teach a lesson in a sec. Wes can explain why I had to e-mail today and not yesterday. I am still here in MEsa and Elder Ries got transferred to Tempe for his last transfer and he will be doing english. My new companion is Elder Morgan who was serving in the other half of the ward that I serve in. He is from Riverton Utah and is an acquaintance with Elder Scott, my MTC comp. My grandson became a trainer yesterday so I snagged a 4-generation photo yesterday. Way cool. I'll try and send it next week. I am excited to hit this last one hard and improve on as many things as I can. I'll have to look at the pics next week. Love you all! Do good and feel good!

Week 97 (A Kinder Reminder from...OZMA)

Hey all! Well, p-days are officially back to Wednesdays! It was kinda weird switching over to Tuesdays, but also weird switching back. Haha! I don't have too much to say this week due to time, but I thoroughly enjoyed the pictures that were sent to me. Elise, I hope you have a great time! Being up there can be a wonderful experience. The weather actually feels like it is changing now. I almost forgot what cool natural air felt like. (when I say almost, I did.) A couple of times I have felt a breeze that was slightly cooler than my skin which was warmed by the sun. It was nice. And the mornings when we run feel like room temperature now. However, I hear it will get warm again. This next transfer will be in one week and will decide where I spend my last transfer of the mission. I could say as much as I could go because the companion I am currently with I have been with for 3 transfers and we go home together. SO, someone is probably going. If not...haha, then that's that. It will be a fun ride. Anyways, the main thing that I would like to mention is an experience that I was privileged to have this last Saturday as I went to the temple to witness the sealing of a family that was baptized about a year ago; the Arredondo's. It was such a wonderful experience to be able to take it from the first time I knocked their door with my trainer the last week of transfer one, to walking with them up to the temple as they held their children by the hands and took them to the Lord's holy house. I don't think that there is anything better that can happen as a missionary than to see that. As of September 11th, 2010, the Arredondo's are a Forever Family. I have a testimony that this work is the Lord's work. When we seek to do it His way and by His spirit, wonderful things happen; to us and those we serve. The temple is the place where the Lord wants us to be; individually and as families. Go there. I love what I do. I love that I get 7 more weeks to pound the pavement and find those that are looking for the truth. It is here; all of it. Have a great week! I love you all!

Week 96 (Jaws...BrandNew)

Hi all! Here we are and another week gone by. This last week was really nice. We had a chance to meet a few new people that will hopefully be really cool. Also, this Saturday we had a baptism for Alfredo Fuentes. That was really neat. He was the last person to make his family complete in the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are really excited for them and the many chances that they will have to grow as individuals and as a family. Random side-note. When we e-mail, we go to the MCC which is a local community college to e-mail because the library is HUGE. Way better than the public library. Anyways, there was this guy that we ran into this week who was ridiculously rude to another missionary and myself (we were on exchanges) in front of a group of people that we were talking to. The reason I bring it up is because he's sitting next to me and I don't think he notices it because I'm wearing my glasses and I cut my hair last night. It's kinda weird but kinda funny. Anyways, things are going along great. I thought it would be strange/difficult being with someone who has the same time out as me in the mission but it has kinda worked out. Being conscious of the fact that we are both nearing that time, we do a decent job at staying away from that topic and those thoughts. We're kind of extra sensitive about it. Haha. As we continually strive to go forward we see the Lord bless us. We have seen lots of opposition. But we have never ceased to see the hand of the Lord guiding us through. I'm not sure what transfers will bring in 2 weeks, because one of us have to go, but I am excited to push hard and finish this transfer strong; prepped and ready for one more time. The more I dig deep, and dedicate myself, the more the Lord blesses with me. I feel a fire for this work as I pray to the Lord each day to consecrate my efforts. Last week for our zone activity we did a combined broom-hockey tournament with the Gilbert zone. This week we are playing laser tag. haha! I hope that you all enjoy yourselves and that you find comfort and strength in the promises that you have made with the Lord. Go to church and go to the Temple to renew those promises as often as you can. There is great power in this. I love you all. Welcome home Jen, Rose and Mike! Until next week!

Week 95 (Career Day... The FormAt)

Hey there! Crazy to think that another week has gone by but so it has. This last week was a jumble of things but the highlights are ones to remember for sure. Elder L. Tom Perry was visiting the valley for some stake business and he along with Elders Wright and Hallstrom from the Seventy came and spoke to us. I was very grateful for the visit seeing as this time in a missionaries journey leaves one with lots of questions. It was a great chance to simply go and let the Spirit teach me of the things that I needed to do. He spoke of many basic principles such as; Jesus Christ, The Restoration, The Book of Mormon, Priesthood Organization and Authority. Then, he simply testified of these things. He is now 88 years old and still running. Almost literally. His stride and pace is incredible. haha. This Sunday a mother of some children that got baptized just before I arrived in the area came to church. They are going through a lot of tough times right now and it was just great to see her come and then tell us of the good things that happened to her afterwords. She had been battling a lot, feeling like she couldn't make time for such things, but when she finally did, she was blessed. I hope she comes again. This Sunday we also had the first Mission President's Fireside in pure Spanish. It was really neat because Viki (Gustavo's wife) who got baptized about a month ago, got to bear her testimony and share her story. Today I was able to go to the Temple and it was a joy as always. I have to get going but I hope that you are all doing well! Take care! Congratulations to the Barnes!

Week 94 (So Give It Up...The FormAt)

Hey all! This week has been a great one. My schedule was quite opposite than the week past. This week I actually got to go out for the majority of the days and preach to people and it was great! Haha. It is funny how exciting that is for us as missionaries. We were able to talk to lots of people and find lots of new people to teach which was really neat. I am just really excited to keep the momentum going. Lately I have been reading the account of the First Vision and I have felt it be a great anchor in my days. We talk to lots of people that don't have much to say, nor do they have the desire, but then on occasion, we find someone who does want to talk but usually trying to dissuade us. As we listen and then simply invite them to read The Book of Mormon and testify of the Restoration, I feel a great peace in my heart as the Lord sustains us and lets us know that the work we are about is true. Several moments this past week that I can remember in particular, when things fell through and we were just confused and wondering why, Heavenly Father blessed us and gave us what we needed. It reminded me a lot of the scripture in Alma 26:27 -Now when our hearts were depressed, and we were about to turn back, behold, the Lord comforted us, and said: Go amongst thy brethren, the Lamanites, and bear with patience thine afflictions, and I will give unto you success.-
Like the scriptures say, His eyes are on the sparrow. Not a day goes by that I am not reminded that His eyes are on me. He is watching me, protecting and guiding me, and hoping that I listen to His pleas to come unto Him. Only as we continue with faith do we see His hand in our lives. Never doubt and never give up. I hope that you all have a great week as you prepare to go to school. Best of luck!

Week 93 (Dark Blue... j.M.)

Hey all! Thanks for all of your love and support!
This week was pretty different from any other week that I have had on the mission. Our new mission president came out to Arizona with the instruction to give us some training that would help us be better missionaries. The training spanned three days for six hours each day. I personally really loved it. Whether I was getting something out of what they were teaching me or not, I was always learning something because the Spirit was there to teach me and answer questions in my heart. That went from Thursday through Saturday. Then on Monday morning a group of us had a chance to meet with President Howes and the Assistants to the President. I was really grateful for that moment as well as I was able to listen to him and let the Spirit testify to me that he was called to lead this mission. I don't exactly know how to express how inspiring it was for me, but it was a meeting that I won't forget. He showed a great example to me of a dedicated servant of God. On Sunday, Elder Ries and I had the chance to dress up and recount the story of Peter and John, finding the tomb empty on the day of the resurrection. I made a fake beard that I cut out of paper. All the kids loved it. Overall, I have been in meetings all this week, but luckily not for the whole day. Haha. Happy Birthday to Dan! Take care!

Week 92 (Try Again... Keane)

Hello all! Not much time today, just like last week, but a quick update is that transfers were today and I am STAYING in Mesa! I will do 6 months here and I will be do a third transfer with Elder Ries. Lots of exciting things are happening as the Lord helps us become better messengers of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. I love you all!

Week 91 (There Cannot Be a Close Second... Copeland)

Hehe, I know I have used that subject title before, but I feel it very fitting to the way I feel today. This past weekend I had the chance to watch Gustavo and the Arredondo's go to the temple for the first time. What a special experience it was for me to be able to see it happen. The only thing that will be better will be to see them sealed as a family. When we are baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it is important to remember that baptism is not the end, but only the beginning. For a missionary, it is our hope that they take this commitment to God, and continue on to prepare themselves for eternity by going to the temple. It needs to be the same with our lives. Many a time it might be convenient to hold ourselves to a low standard, but it is important to remember, if we are not living to enter the temple, we are missing the point of being baptized. There is not much time today, but I hope it is everyone's hope, and goal to make it to the House of the Lord that is the temple. There is no greater place to understand the will of God and how to live it our lives than in that sacred, holy house. I love this work and I am grateful that I can serve. I am also grateful for the support from each of you! Until next week!

Week 90 (Lola Stars and Stripes... The Stills)

Hi there! Well I quite honestly was very surprised that Wednesday had approached so fast! But here we are! This week was good. Some people that we were hoping for, came to church on Sunday, so that was really neat. Lately we have been meeting a lot of people that are interested in hearing what we have to say. This weekend I will have the privilege of attending the temple to see Gustavo, Lorena and Carlos who all got baptized in May 09, go through the temple for their first time. On the same Saturday, Gustavo's wife will be baptized and the family will be complete! Tomorrow I will have the chance to have my first interview with President Howes. I am thoroughly looking forward to it. I think he will be able to share some things with me that will really help me out. The past couple of days we have been visiting a missionary from our Zone in the hospital and it has been interesting to see how many people from the church work there. In fact, last night we ran into someone from the second quorum of the 70. haha! It is interesting to see the opposition that comes from the adversary as we strive to do the Lord's will. One thing that I really love is never giving up. It is exciting to know that the Lord has told us that we can accomplish something, so we work and find ways that we hadn't ever imagined to make sure that these things happen. If we just push a little more and try a little harder, we see miracles. It is a great blessing for me to be able to serve. I am excited to be able to keep it strong until the end. I know that there is a simple peace that comes as we read the scriptures and pray daily, and as we partake of the sacrament weekly at church. There is confidence and assurance that comes as we keep the commandments. It is promised that if we keep the commandments, we will prosper in the land. I know that this gospel is true, and I know it because my Heavenly Father and Savior love me. I hope that you all have a great week as you prepare to go back to school and what-not. Bye!

Week 89 (Here Comes the Sun... Beatles)

Hehe, kind of ironic the subject title today. I had wanted to do something that has to do with the sun, but looking out the window I realize that it is a very un-sunny day. Haha. Perhaps the monsoons are coming. I don't remember when they came last year but they seem to be a little late. WHo knows. This week has been good. There are a couple of people that we are working with that we are pretty excited for. They know that it is all true, they each just have a few challenges to get through and then they will be able to follow-through with their desires. Sunday we had what is called the Mission President's Fireside which is held every 3rd Sunday of the month. This time it was my responsibility to stand up front with the Spanish person baring their testimony, and translate. This time it was Blanca who got baptized on Mother's Day. She wasn't too aware of the fact that I don't have an eternal memory and so her first phrase that she left for me to translate was about a minute long. Apparently my face looked more and more concentrated/flustered as time went on (some people told me after) due to the increasing amount of things to remember. When it finally came to for me to speak for the first time, everyone burst out laughing. Hehe, it was actually pretty funny. Blanca took it well, because she understood. While there, before the meeting started, to my excitement I saw Gustavo and his family. Gustavo and his daughter got baptized a little over a year ago. This whole time, the missionaries have been working with his wife, Viki, to help her take the same step. Elder Ries playfully asked, "When are you getting baptized Viki?!" She replied, "July 31st! YOu two better come!" Oh boy, we were SO happy! Gustavo that same morning will being to the temple to become endowed. I also heard that that is when another family, the Arrendondo's are going to do the same. And the following weekend they will be getting sealed. It was great news! We are for sure going to be able to go to the baptism. We are just hoping that we can go to the temple as well. Everything is going well with the work in our Zone. The Lord is really pleased with what is happening. People keep popping up that are ready and so desirous to come unto Christ. It is a beautiful thing to see. Today we went to the Temple. It was such a wonderful and peaceful experience; more than normal. I am really excited to make it a more regular habit when I get home. Our Heavenly Father has provided us with so many precious means of finding comfort and guidance in this world. And all of it comes to mean more to us as we come to understand better the Atonement in our lives. I was listening to the talk by Elder Richard G. Scott- "He Lives! All Glory to His Name!" Listen to it. It gives a lot of insight on how to constantly better our understanding and gratitude for the greatest gift offered us which is the Atonement. I love this work. Every last bit of it! I hope each of you enjoy your weeks as you try to better understand your relationship with our Heavenly Father and what He would have you do. Take care!

Week 88 (I'm Lovin' Angels... D.A.)

Hello all! This past week has been a great one. First off, happy 3 months to Elder Faulk tomorrow! I know you're workin your tail off down there! Lots of things are happening here in the Mesa Zone. As the weeks have gone by, the Lord has been blessing us constantly in leading us to those that are ready. Many people's lives are being changed as they prepare to enter the waters of baptism. Last week, Francisco got baptized and it was a neat experience. He was taught by some previous Elders and had been coming to church for a while, but just didn't feel ready. We would ask him from time to time if he was ready to take that step in his life. On Tuesday he said yes, so on Friday he got baptized. He is a really neat guy and will be a great example for his family. There are a lot of people that we are excited to be able to teach because the Lord has been preparing them. One is a girl who went to girls camp with her friends and has been to mutual a lot. She went to church for the first time two weeks ago and has been loving everything. We are going to teach her for the first time on Friday. When we set goals with the Lord, it is our responsibility to always be looking for a way to make things happen. He expects us to. It will never be how we planned and will only be completed after diligent, obedient efforts. As members, we have the great opportunity to share the gospel that brings such joy, peace and comfort to our lives. The future of the world is uncertain. But the future of our lives and those of our families can be assured as we plant our families firmly in the gospel of Jesus Christ. The home is such an essential part to providing the rising generations with what they need to come off conqueror, true and faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ. I am excited for the future. And I am even more excited for now. There is so much to enjoy and so much to experience. I hope you all enjoy your week and enjoy becoming better day by day!

Week 87 (I Believe In Miracles... Hot Chocolate)

Hello! Well, there is much to say so let's see how I do. On Friday we had the opportunity to meet President and Sister Howes for the first time. It was a great chance to get to know them, and receive a confirmation that the Lord has called them to serve at this time. Saturday we went as a Zone to have a "Meet and Greet" where they formally introduced themselves to our group of 16 missionaries and opened up to us a lot. To be honest, I do not see a problem with the transition happening smoothly. At the least, the missionaries where I serve seem to love him already. Sunday, Alma was able to get her baby boy blessed and we were able to participate. It is always a joy to see families so young promise to rear their families the way the Lord wants. Although we are only two weeks into this 7 week transfer, we are seeing so many wonderful things happen. The Lord set a high standard for what we are to achieve this transfer and it has been amazing to see each missionary companionship take their faith, obedience, and a determination to do the Lord's will to the highest standard that they can. As such, the Lord has already blessed us immensely as He does His part to bring about this work. The more I serve the more I love faith and what a powerful tool it is in making things happen. We cannot doubt or fear. Those feelings come from the Adversary. There are too many things to do to NOT let it be pushed forward with a firm faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. There is so much we miss out on accomplishing or that we delay getting done when we let our faith weaken. It is great to hear about all of the wonderful things happening to each of you in your lives and I hope to hear from more of you soon! Until next time!

Week 86 (Skies So Blue... T.R.S.)

Hey fam! Hey all! I don't have much time this week, but I thought I would let you know how everything is going. This last Saturday, we had Alma's baptism. She was so excited and filled with joy. I was glad to be able to be a part of this big step in her new family that she is starting off. Luis and Alma are a young couple with a little baby boy and are very excited and determined to do things the way the Lord would have them done. We have been finding a lot of people but not all of them seem to be truly looking for the gospel. That is the thing about missionary work. There is a fine balance between teaching those that like to learn and those that are truly searching. The hard part is sticking only with those that are truly wanting and desiring the truth. That is what we are trying to do. Lots of people, but not as many of them are truly desirous. So we move on. As we show the Lord that we are willing to make better use of His time, He blesses us with the elect. There is always someone ready for the truth. And whether we find them or the members, they are waiting and praying and ready when we come. It is a beautiful thing. I love this work and this gospel. I love my Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ. I am thankful for the chance that I have to serve them all my days, but especially these precious 2 years. Thanks for all of your love and support! I hope to hear from many of you soon!

Week 85 (Hello, Good Friend... T.R.S.)

Hey! Transfers were this week! They came a week early to prepare for the arrival of our new Mission President. I saw President & Sister Craig for the last time today. (last time for a little while at least...) Spurred from a few thoughts that I expressed to my Dad in regards to Father's Day, I was caused to reflect upon the blessing I have had in receiving such good parents, and why it was so. Through the time that I have been out here and the many, many families I have seen and known, the resounding factor for success, joy, and true happiness has been an active living of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have seen too many families that could have been, shattered. I could go on for a while with the many things that I have seen. And each time when I see something happen, whether divorce, infidelity or what-have-you, I sit and try and think of would I could give them, or what would have prevented it. Every time, I know the answer is the Gospel. When you truly know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is guided by a Loving Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ Himself, it makes sense. It makes sense that the teachings contained within this church make things work out. It makes sense the love is found and shown as it should be. That children are had and raised as they should be. That happiness is had and lasts as it should. Because Jesus Christ is guiding our family and blessing it as we follow His counsel. For those who have not read "The Family, A Proclamation to the World," do it. Find it what your role is in bringing true happiness to your live. As the Savior said, we will never thirst when we drink from His waters. We will never be searching for something more. I know it is true and I am grateful for the special care that God has placed over my family through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I hope you all enjoy your weeks and become what you hope to be!

Week 84 (Black Hole Sun... Copeland)

Good Morning! I haven't spoken of the weather lately but it has been interesting! Normally about a month and a half ago, we would be dancing around 100 and by now for sure set in the 100-110's. However, due to a long winter, summer has come slower and less potently to our desert home here in Arizona. It has been really nice. I couldn't tell you what it has been most of the time but probably in between 90 and 105 which is nice. Hehe, anyways, things have been good here. This weekend we will be having the wedding of a young lady by the name of Alma. She will then be getting baptized the following week. She is a really neat person. As we approach the end of our time with President Craig. We had interviews with him last Thurs and they were really nice. I remember thinking about this day but thinking it was a ways off. Oh well. Hehe, it's here. Nothing to do but go forward and do it for the Lord. One thing that I have been noticing lately is the Lord trying to teach me of a greater level of faith. Sometimes the thing that we have faith in, for example, that something which we need to happen will happen. Sometimes, a moment comes and goes and we think that that was it; that was the moment that the Lord would have answered my needs or answered my question, so if not then, then I guess it just isn't meant to happen. I have been realizing more how the Lord expects our faith to stretch even farther. If the Lord doesn't answer in such and such moment, it doesn't mean that the chance has come and gone. It means that He is giving us a chance to believe even harder and work even harder; a greater chance for miracles. I don't know if this makes sense but I have just noticed how not only do we have to endure to the end, but also endure to the end our trials to the very end, working and believing till the very end. That is when we will see the Lord shower His blessings on us and reward us for our faith. I love being out here. I love being able to watch people understand that the Lord's church is on the earth again for our benefit so that we might be happy in this life and return to live in joy with our Father in Heaven in the life that follows. It is all true. Every last part of it. I hope each of you are doing well! I hope to hear from ya! Thanks for the love and support that you already do send.

Week 83 (Simple Pages... =w=)

Hey! This week has gone by way too fast. It seems as though they all do now-a-days. Today we had the chance to go to the Temple and as always, it was a wonderful experience. We started teaching a really nice young couple this last week. We had met them a few weeks before but simply couldn't touch bases with them for a little while. They came to church on Sunday and really enjoyed themselves. We hope to help them get married and enter the waters of baptism soon. There have been other people coming and going, some more interested than others. As always, the search continues, and in the end it is truly a joy; being able to find those that truly want to know what is right. And either way, regardless of the results it builds our testimonies and makes us stronger. We have a new Ward Mission Leader. His name is Hno. Valquinto. He is from Argentina and he is very well prepared. We went to meet with him expecting to have to explain certain things to him, but he already knew it. It was very refreshing. I am excited to see what rolls forth as he sets the standards and goals for missionary work with Bishop Merino. Tomorrow we have Interviews with President Craig. It is my last one with him. *Bitter-sweet* He has been a great influence on me over the year and a half that I have known him. What I am most excited for is the work that is rolling forth in Arizona. We continue to set goals with the Lord and they continue to be met. The lessons that I am learning about levels of discipline and the happiness and success that can come from it, is something that I am very grateful for. For any of you that haven't updated me for a while on the events in your lives, feel free to send me a letter! I would love to know how you're doing! Take care! Read and pray daily; simple but essential.

Week 82 (El Scorcho... =w=eezEr)

Hello to all! This has been a week of many events. Probably one of the most exciting was the chance that we had, Elder Ries and I, to go to the sealing of a family that he baptized in the Rio Salado Ward of Tempe. It was a great experience for me to be able to go to another sealing, especially because I knew this family pretty well. It is a joy to see and feels me with an excitement that cannot be described. Later that day we also received permission to go and have dinner with that ward, because they were celebrating three sealings that took place that day. It was such a privilege to be able to go back and see so many people with which I had such a special connection. Last Thursday, President Craig had his last zone conference with us. It is weird to think that everything that is going on is his last this and that. Next week will be my last interview with him. It will be strange, but not difficult, I hope. I am excited to be able to put my faith in the Lord and His chosen servants. To trust that this new leader is here because the Lord willed it. One of the counselors of the mission presidency gave wise advice in saying, "Your love for President Craig will never change, nor should it. But your loyalty must." In the end, our loyalty is never changed as it is fixed on the Lord. Our loyalty to Him then helps us change our loyalty to any of those that He calls to lead and guide us in His stead. I love this work and the knowledge that I have that the Lord is at the helm. There is no doubt. I hope that all of us think of ways to grow just a little bit closer to our Father in Heaven and to have our relationship be just a little bit stronger. Bye!

Week 81 (You Know Me... The FormAt)

Hey all! I just wanted to write quickly about faith. The more I'm out here the more I understand why faith is the first principle and ordinance of the gospel. As it says in Ether, we receive no witness until after the trial of our faith. Sometimes I think that in having faith we let it pitter out a little too soon. A trial comes, we see it through, hoping for the answer to follow, and then it doesn't. And we figure that it wasn't meant to be, or it wasn't meant to happen. When instead I think many times, it is just a greater trial than we understood. The Lord was just expecting us to hold out a little longer and have hope a little brighter. The Lord will always follow through with His promises. It is not for us to decide when or how He will keep us word but to just believe and wait, all the while doing our part to make it happen. This week will be fun, we get to go to a Sealing of a family from Tempe that I got to know and that Elder Ries baptized. They are way neat. Lots of people are popping up that are looking for the truth and it is exciting. Even though I have a car, I love riding my bike, especially in the city. There are tons of people to talk to and tons of smells of food from the restaurants. I love how our senses take us back to such specific moments. Last Sunday we got to see the Temple Dedication of the Gila Valley Temple. It is very pretty. I look forward to the progression of the Gilbert and Phoenix Temples as well. Take care! Thanks for your letters of support!

Week 80 (Oh, Think Twice... Copeland)

Good Afternoon! Today I find myself in the Mesa Community Library because The MCC (Mesa Community College) where we normally go is closed until May 31st. This will be transfer 2 in Mesa Arizona and it will be a short one. Do to the coming in of the new President, this transfer is cut to 5 weeks. Everything will happen, just a little faster. Due to my tardiness in e-mailing, you might see that there was a transfer in my companionship. Elder Stroh, for his last transfer, went to Maricopa to be a District Leader there. He was torn. Happy to go but sad to leave. My new companion is Elder Ries. He is from Boise on the Meridian edge. If you remember from a long time ago, he was one of the four missionaries in my MTC room. He was companions with Elder Nielsen while I was companions with Elder Scott. He has been lots of places doing lots of good things so it will be exciting to serve with him. The branch here is really close and so it was hard for them to see him go. Speaking of which, I don't think I mentioned this last week, but the branch on Sunday was changed to a ward. Our former branch mission leader was called to be the Bishop. His name is Bishop Merino from El Salvador. There is a lot more diversity in this ward than in other areas that I have served. Perhaps the one to equal it would be Queen Creek. This next transfer there will be a lot of work to do. The biggest task will be finding. We need lots of new people to teach. I am excited to be able to put my faith in the Lord as we work and He provides a way. Faith and a positive outlook are keys to making this work move along; as well as anything in life. You have to believe things are going to happen and work like it too. I know that the Lord will always bless us as we strive our best for what is right. It may be hard, and even sometimes unappealing, but our love for the Lord and our Heavenly Father can pull us through. 100% of the time. Take care and good luck with finals or whatever else you have to do! This weekend we will be watching the dedication of the Gila Valley Temple! Bye!

Week 79 (Try Again... Keane)

Every 6 Weeks in missions around the world there is a certain that comes to all known as transfers. To some it may mean another 6 weeks stay in the same place to see what more they can do, for others it may mean new places, new people and new challenges and for all it means another chance that we have to give our all to the Lord as we seek to fulfill our purpose by bringing others unto Christ; another chance to try again. As time has gone by, I have been thinking more and more of how central the Atonement of Jesus Christ is in our lives. I have always known it, but I have been able to see more and more, why. The more I look for it the more I see a need for a chance to try again. Jesus Christ offers us that chance daily as we simply turn to the Lord in humble prayer, ask forgiveness, resolving to be better and stronger than before. Then, on Sunday we partake of the sacrament worthily to renew our baptismal covenants with our Father in Heaven and determine to endure to the end. This cleansing and refreshing of our efforts to do good is not something that should be delayed, nor sporadic; but daily and sincerely done. Waiting to let the Atonement work in our lives is like waiting to relieve the weight of sin. If put off too long, we break, unable to handle the burden of a price already paid. Our Savior took that burden upon Himself so that we might not have to do it alone. As we go unto Him, it is promised that He will make our burdens light. Daily use of this gift leaves our spirits feeling light, full of joy and happy. I have felt this power work in my life. I know it is real. I pray that each of us can work to better understand how this gift plays such a crucial role in our daily lives. Take care and enjoy the weather!

-Elder LaPorte =)

p.s. This last Sunday Blanca and her son, Anthony were baptized and confirmed members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was a wonderful experience for all present. She is from Guatemala which is pretty cool. We have a few people that plan on being baptized this weekend along with a Mother's Day breakfast, A Temple Sealing and a wedding of one of the people being baptized. It will be a busy and exciting Saturday ;)

Week 78 (Here's To the Crazy Ones... @pple)

Well hello to all! Here I am reporting for week 5 of my stay here in MEsa, AZ. So far, so good. Things are looking really up for the end of this transfer. It is quite amazing to see how many hearts are ready here and how quickly they come. The Lord is preparing His children to receive the gospel. This 6 week period is looking to be the best that we have had yet. The month of May is looking to be the same. Earlier today we went to the temple. I was grateful that I was able to go there and try and understand some things that the Lord has in store for me if I do what is right. Tomorrow we get to have interviews with President Craig. It is kind of bitter-sweet as I contemplate the reality that he will be going soon. This will be one of two more interviews that I have with that man. I have grown to love him and appreciate all that he has taught me as a missionary but more-so, as a son of God. His wisdom is great, and his love and devotion to the Lord and others is greater. I plan to welcome with whole heart the new Mission President that comes along, I just don't know what it will be like. The longer that I am out here, the more the Spirit tells me more precisely what it is that I need to do and become before I get home. The hardest thing to do, but the greatest thing to work for is a heart completely devoted to the Lord. A heart that looks past personal needs and seeks always first, the spiritual priorities of God. I am still working on it, and always will be, but I know that I will never regret it. In my efforts to do so out here on this mission, I have learned more of myself, and more of my Heavenly Father and Savior than I ever thought possible. I will forever be grateful for the blessing that it is to know the Lord as we serve Him. It is a relationship that I can develop all my life. I have no doubt that God is real and that He is mindful of us. I know that He has created this world so that happiness would come through pure obedience to His laws. I know that Jesus Christ gave His life for those moments when we fall short of what God asks of us. I know that we can live with Them again. I am excited to know it even better, and hope that all of you experience the same. Prayer, scripture study and going to church; simple, but key. ByE! Happy Mothers day to all, present and future!

Week 77 (We're Gonna Stay 18 Forever... braNdEW)

Well good afternoon from Mesa, Arizona! In light of my title this week, tomorrow will mark my 18 months in the mission. It is kind of weird to consider. When I try to think of life before the mission, it seems like something distant and far. When I think of the time spent thus far, it feels as though it has been far shorter. It seems as though the more you feel that you know what you're doing as a missionary, the less time you feel you have each day. I'm not sure if that makes sense to any of you, but it makes perfect sense to me. I wish the days went slower but irregardless, we still seem to be able to do what is needed. It just doesn't feel like it. The work here is going really nicely. It is a completely different pace from the work up on the mountains: 1. it being the mountains and 2. it being english work. Down here I definitely do feel more in my zone in the Spanish world. I love the people and I love all the chances that I get to speak to those I meet. There are a good number of people preparing themselves for baptism and I'm excited for that. I'm also excited to see who else the Lord will put into our path through our own efforts and those of the members. This last weekend I was privileged to go to a baptism of the son of Cris. Cris was someone whom I taught that got baptized shortly after I went up to Show Low. Not long after, her daughter did the same. This last weekend her oldest child, Cristian, was baptized and I got to go. It was nice to be able to make up for the missed baptism before and to be able to see the wonderful things happening to their family. I don't know how many people came but it seemed as though at least 20 people came that had not been baptized yet; many were friends of Cristian. It was great to see their enthusiasm in inviting everyone they knew to come and partake of such a special event. I am excited to hear about the many great things that they do to bring others into the fold. The more I do this the more my testimony grows of the truthfulness of this work. That God and Jesus Christ are guiding us to carry out their purposes here on the earth. I meet people daily who tell me to go home and re-think what I know and what I have learned. Every time I do, I am strengthened. It is real. It is true. It is wonderful. I hope that you all enjoy yourselves this week as we enter the best month of the year! Haha.

Week 76 (Don't Give Up!... W.A.)

Hello, and happy week to all! As expected, the temperatures are slowly rising and reminding us that we are in Arizona. I am fully enjoying my chance to be back in the valley/city/Spanish work. The people and food have a great place in my heart. To share a funny story... Yesterday, we were teaching on some grass of one of the local community college campuses. We had brought a guy with us who would be leaving on his mission in a little less than a month. Near the end of the lesson a gentleman pulled up his bike and was curiously and anxiously eying us from a distance. (About 25 feet away, if that.) After the lesson was finished we approached him and introduced ourselves. He began to ask us of our motivation behind the service that we do followed by a series of other questions. It quickly became apparent that he had no intention of hearing the answers to his questions but only to quickly interject and instill us with his doctrine. We then spent the rest of 20 min or so, trying to direct him to the Church website or to the English missionaries who could address his questions at a more appropriate time. While walking back to the car we explained to Abel (pronounced Ahh-Bell) that he will find many situations like that and it will be his job to address the concerns of all when sincerely asked, and to politely interact with those who have no desire to hear but to simply tell us that we are wrong. We did, however, mention the sincerity and kindness of this young man in trying to help us see what he felt to be truth, which is generally rare. And how normally they are more loud, less polite and use more heated tones and words in addressing us. No sooner had we mentioned that, than a man who was crossing the street in front of us greeted us with a belittling statement concerning Joseph Smith, followed by a series of ill-mannered words and sentiments. After asking him for a referral and if he needed some service, we then told Abel with a laugh, "That is what we were talking about." Haha. It was pretty ironic. Any day can be cheery and bright, even when the day's events are delivered in a contrary manner. With an optimistic attitude and a disposition to find good in all, every day can be a joy. I hope that each of you can find peace in your trials and comfort during hardships. I know that it can come as we always remember our Lord and Savior who gave all so that we could have all. Take care!

Week 75 (Don't Stop, Believin... Journey)

It is interesting to think about the trails that we are dealt in life. Since being here, I have had many opportunities to experience more profoundly the ways in which our Heavenly Father teaches us to turn our hearts to Him. Many people have said to me that they have had things happen to them that just weren't right. They have prayed for things that they just haven't gotten. That life seems to be telling them that maybe that being up above cares a little bit less than they were taught. For all reasons given as to why they feel abandoned, lost and betrayed, I see the contrary. Any trial that we receive, wasn't necessarily because we "deserved it", but because we can handle it; if we turn to the Lord to get through it. Every prayer that seems to be unanswered in the way that we seek could be a perfect showing of the kind and thoughtful watch that our Father in Heaven has over us as He gives us not what we want, but what we need. There is no greater love that I can see than that which comes from one willing to let sorrow come upon us, so that we might personally understand the joy; and understand our need for Him and His guidance. One who is willing to see us struggle as what is best for us is given instead of what we desire. What parent doesn't understand these truths, and yet in their own moments of struggle, trial and disbelief, expect something different from a perfect father above. For myself as much as anyone else, we must see this chance that we have to struggle, to stretch, to learn and to grow as the greatest outpouring of love that our Heavenly Father could ever show. The truth is that He is there and that He does care. And as we understand the greatest source of hope and reprieve that He has given us through Jesus Christ, we will never doubt or falter. I know that my Father in Heaven is mindful of me and the struggles that I have. I know that He is yearning always for me to turn my heart to His. I know that all things are possible through Jesus Christ whom the Father sent because Jesus Christ suffered all and felt all for each one of us so that we might not be alone in this mortal journey. I love this life. I love it all. And I'm grateful to have the chance to share what makes it such a joy, with all around me. I hope that all goes well for each of you as you turn your hearts to God. Take care and never give up! See ya next week!

Week 74 (We Were Walkin Downtown... Copeland)

Hey all! I would say writing from Show Low, but I'm not there. I'm in Mesa. There was an opening down here in a spanish area in mesa because a missionary just finished his mission, so the Lord sent me here. It is bitter/sweet. We have a lot of good things lined up this transfer with a lot of good people, but I am very excited to be able to come back to the speaking spanish. This branch has been known for a lot of good things with 60+ convert baptisms last year. There is a lot of good support from the members and lots of very prepared people to find and talk to. It is also nice being in the city again. I like both types of places I guess, but I always feel nice where things are busy and people are around. Although I would have liked to stay a little longer in the mountains, the Lord knows what is best. Plus, it would have been a greater shock to have to come down in July in the middle of the summer. My new companion is Elder Stroh from Spokane, WA. He has 2 transfers left and goes home with my former companion, Elder Weller. He was the trainer to another former companion of mine, Elder Shiffler, and he was with my MTC companion, Elder Scott, for 3 transfers in Yuma. So, there is a lot of good history and a lot of good things that I believe we will be able to do. We all have our weaknesses but together we will be able to lift one another up and bring the best that we can to this area. The missionary that I trained, Elder Bradshaw, became a trainer this transfer, so that is exciting knowing that 3 generations are in the field right now and a possible 4 if this new one trains before I go home. I am excited for the change and the new opportunity to grow. As long as I am constantly trying to understand what it is that the Lord wants me to change, and DOING it, I know that the Lord will bless us. I hope that you all enjoyed General Conference and had a Happy Easter!

Week 73 (Should I Stay or Should I Go...Clash)

Hello! Welcome to one of the fastest transfers of my life! Hehe, it seems as though the more time goes by, the faster it flies. (like it or not. hehe) We are very excited for this weekend's events seeing as it will be General Conference. It is interesting how exciting it can be for us as missionaries. It is also neat to know that all my friends around the world will be doing the exact same thing at the exact same moment. I have been reading the e-mails of Elder Clark and his letters put me to shame. Haha. Maybe sometime before I go home I will be able to capture a week the way he does. One exciting thing that I have been working on is making sure that I am a faithful and semi-detailed journal writer. If, (jk), WHEN I write in my journal tonight I will have written every night this month. I have enjoyed knowing that I am keeping a meaningful record of my life. It is weird going back to other days and seeing what was going on in my life out here. I am excited to be able to review all the adventures of these 2 years in my journal. Interviews were a pleasure as always with President Craig. They were bitter-sweet, however, because I only have two more of those left with him before he goes home. Then I will have about 4 months left with my new President. It is also interesting seeing my pool of missionaries that I know change from those older than me, to those younger than me. Whether I get transfered in a week or in 2 more transfers, it will be funny because I will have been thrown up here in the dead of winter and thrown back down to the valley in time for summer. We are having a lot of nice progress with our investigators and also with the ward members. Next transfer should be a wonderful experience for whomever stays. Hopefully Elder Knaphus at the least, if not the both of us. He has worked hard with a few of these people. What a coincidence that Easter falls on Conference weekend. I am excited for the both. The celebration of Easter is what gives us hope for what we know as the purpose of this life, which is to return and live with our Heavenly Father. I am excited to see what Easter-focused messages exist on this special weekend. I hope that all of you prepare yourselves to accept the messages shared this weekend and the feelings that come as we remember the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Happy Easter and Happy Conference!

Week 72 (There Cannot Be a Close Second... Copeland)

Well, first off, in honor of Copeland I put this song title that I am pretty sure I have put before. They apparently did their final tour. R.I.P. On a more important note, things are going well up here in the White Mountains. We have been working very hard with our wards to try and help them be more involved and do so in the way that Elder Perry has outlined. I am pleased as more and more in prayers I hear them ask, "Bless us to find someone for the missionaries to teach, " vs. "Bless the missionaries to find someone to teach." We can sure do it. But the members can do it better. Especially in a community like this where in a population of around 12,000 there are 5 wards. There are a lot of members and everybody knows who the missionaries are. They either love us or they hate us. Haha, and either way, they're not interested. Except for those select few which we could find a lot more easily with the help of the good members. We have a really neat investigator who is very dedicated to studying and very receptive to the Spirit. After a week and a half, (as of yesterday morning) she had already read to 1 Nephi Ch. 17. We have a lot of other good people progressing and moving along that just need a little more time. Bit by bit opportunities are popping up and I look forward to what even greater opportunities come as we work together with the wards. We have interviews on friday which I am excited for and we went to the Temple today which was great. This is a very choice time in my life for the which I am greatly blessed. Take care!

Week 71 (Testing the Strong Ones... Copeland)

Hmmm, well good day to all. As I come to write today, there is only one real thought that comes to my mind. As missionaries, you find many that are selfish about "their p-day." And, even without noticing at times, it can get the best of those who never want to hold that sentiment. Today while driving over to help someone clear out his art gallery, I saw two people down the road working on a car. After a second's debate in my mind, I told Elder Knaphus to turn around. We pulled up and got out of our van (a.k.a. embarrassing car. haha) and went up to them and began to talk. We introduced the message of the Restoration and left them with a copy of the Book of Mormon and our testimonies of how this Gospel can bless their families. I am glad that we took that moment to stop and speak to them. One, because we promised the Lord that we would. But two, because I found once again what I have found time and time again. The joy that comes from testifying and bearing witness of truth. They didn't tell us that we could come back. They said that they were fine with their Christian church. But what a joy it was to tell them what they can have if they find that the Book of Mormon is true. We can all take time in our day. Especially when it seems like "our time." That is when the Lord will place them in our paths. We who lose our lives for the Lord's sake, shall find them. Let us never think that we are too busy or too rushed to testify of what is everything to us. For if we seek to find our lives, we shall lose them. I love this work. And I love knowing that even after my time here is done, it is still not over. And neither will my joy have an end as I always seek to share the Gospel with those around me. Take care! I hope to hear from you!

Week 70 (Oh Nothin Else Compares... Coldplay)

Well hello! Another week in Show Low. The work has been going along and we have been reaping the rewards of missionaries past, but when I think of what has gone on because of current efforts, we see a stagnancy. Not due to a lack of work, nor effective work, but something else that has repeatedly come to both of our minds in thinking of how we might better our efforts; the members. In listening to the April 2009 Conference Address of Elder L. Tom Perry in the Sunday afternoon session, I was reaffirmed that the members are the greatest means of success in the missionary work. We have been working to re-emphasize the need for the involvement of the members in this work and we won't stop. In a small community where the majority are LDS and the rest don't care to be, it makes members that much more important. We can spend our days walking and talking to those that have said " No thank you" dozens of other times, or we can go to those who members know are ready to hear the truth. I am seeing over and over again the need for members in this work. In big cities or small, with many members or few. We cannot be everywhere and know everyone and cannot get through to them like the good members of the Church can. This gospel is a gift, and it is something to share. If we " Take [our] gold and sit on it," as the dragon told Grendel, we will have lost the purpose of what this gospel is meant to be. Like anything we love, whether a movie, dessert, or song, we share it. How much greater need have we to share what is most precious, most lasting, and most essential to life with our Heavenly Father. I love this gospel. I love the Lord and my Heavenly Father. I look forward to the day when I might be with Them once more. Take care and don't forget to share!

Week 69 (Is It Any Wonder?... Kean)

Heyy! Well, looks like transfer #2 up here in the Mountains! I will be with Elder Knaphus again which will be nice. We are excited to see the work continue fluidly as it already has. It will be weird with the weather the way it is now because this friday we will be driving down to the Valley for a meeting. I hear that it is in the ballpark of 75 degrees down there. I will be burning in comparison to the 25ish degrees that it is up here. Hehe. Oh well. We are not sure who we have in our Zone yet, but we are excited to find out. Transfer meeting is going on as I speak. There are some very special people that we are working with who are preparing for baptism. It is interesting to see the Lord's hand in all that we do if it be right and just. It is a great testimony to me to see it every day. I was listening to a conference talk by Elder Richard G. Scott from April, 2009 Conference about going to the Temple. I am excited for the day when I have a chance to visit more regularly and make the Temple a permanent part of my life. For those considering it, make it a goal to go the Temple; to be worthy of it and enjoy the Spirit that is felt there. It is real and it is there to help us progress. I love the many blessings that our Heavenly Father bestows upon us to bless us in this journey through life. Until next week!

Week 68 (This Is It! Make No Mistake About It... )

Hello!! Well, this is the last week of my first transfer here in Show Low. It is kinda strange to think about because I cannot remember where the days have gone. Time has flown by SO fast. Happy Birthday to all of you who have a birthday in February! I haven't had much time to write letters so I wish you well from here. We have a baptism planned for this weekend which we are looking forward to and I will now have a memory card with which I can take pictures. Haha. My Mom, at the end of one of her e-mails said, share with us your hopes and your dreams. I realized I have not done the best job of expressing some of those daily things that make this experience so important to me. From time to time my point of view changes as to what I see this experience as. Obviously, in all moments I recognize the reality of my purpose to bring others to Christ through Faith, Repentance, and Baptism by immersion and the Holy Ghost. However, from time to time, I have a little moment where I realize the gravity of how much more this affects. This time, as I have tried to constantly remember, is preparing me for everything else that I do in time and eternity. Thus, my hopes and dreams result in simple improvements in who I am because of what I know it will prepare me to be as a husband and father. Patience, love, communication, hope, faith, diligence, thoughtfulness, kindness and forgiveness take on a greater role in all I do. These things not only serve in how I deal with my companion, ward members, fellow missionaries and investigators, but they also help me see how I can develop these attributes to the benefit of my future relationships with my wife, my children, my friends and family, and those of my work and community. Keeping the importance of these habits and dispositions in mind, helps me step up to the plate and do things that I might not otherwise render important. I not only serve with a hope of how it will affect those in my immediate missionary life, but also those with whom I will assosciate with forever. Most importantly, all of these things serve as motivation because of my desire to be like the Lord. I want Him to recognize me because He is seen in my countenance. I want to recognize Him because I have come to know Him throught the life that I live. I want to be considered faithful and worthy when I see Him and my Heavenly Father once again. I want to please them. I know that it is possible and I know that it is real. I will see Them again and great will be the day. I love the hope that the Gospel brings and the way that it can affect all that we do and say. This life IS a time for me to prepare to meet God. Be ready. Thank you for all of your love. I feel it daily.

Week 67 (Irreplaceable...B)

Hey!
Not much time to write but a lot of great things have happened in the past week. This last weekend a very sweet girl named Chassadi was baptized. It was a beautiful ceremony that I am sure brought tender feelings to many of her family that aren't members and those that have been away from the Church for a while. She will be a great blessing to her family. Today I got to go to the Snowflake Temple which was nice. It is small but very pretty. On the way back from the Temple I got a call from Elder Shiffler who is still down in Tempe who gave me the news of a baptism of someone we put on date before I left. He also told me of 7 other baptisms of people that we were working with before I left. It filled my heart in a way that I cannot describe. The Lord blesses us with what we need. Always. I am grateful for this work and this opportunity to be an instrument in the hands of the Lord. It is true. All of it. Until next week!

Week 66 (Around The Clock... T.R.S.)

Hello, hello! Well according to my Mother, snow will come again! Luckily we have a solid windshield this time. Last week we had the baptism of a sweet lady by the name of Monique Mora from France. She likes my last name :) hehe Anyways, she is loving the Church and the peace that it has brought to her life. She was able to quit smoking after 40 years! She has some other great challenges to deal with and is a great inspiration. This transfer is going SO fast, but great! Someone that I am really fond of in my last area of Tempe is getting baptized this Saturday as well. She is a wonderful and strong lady. I love her testimony. The harder and longer I serve, the more my heart is full. This work is truer than anything else I know and I love it. The time is dwindling down but I am grateful for every moment that the Lord affords me. Take care!

Week 65 (Stop This Train... J.M.)

Hi there! What a craaZy week! Hehe, first off, days go by ridiculously fast. I clearly remember exactly what I did LASt Wed. because it seems like yesterday. Nowadays, the only time when it seems to go slow is when there is a change like a transfer. And slow is not even in comparrison to what it used to be. Slow is still WAY FAST!! Too fast. It kind've gives me a little bit of an insight into what life will be like and how important it is to savour every moment. One of the things that I am really grateful for is the fact that I have kept a journal. Because of the fact that what happened yesterday feels like what happened 2 months ago and a year ago, I am glad that I have a journal to go back to so that I can see what made each day special. Daily and thoughtful writing will result in memories forever charished and thus be efforts never regretted. I know that the Lord is shaping me. Trying to make me something better. A close companionship with the Spirit is the key to becoming what we need to. Sometimes it takes time. A process of assessing feelings and then the possibilities of what they might mean. The Lord wants us to search, and to do so with faith and diligence. It is not known how long until desired answers are had, but simply that in doing so we learn to more fully depend on him. I know the Lord loves me. I know that he will never abandon me. I am grateful for the companionship of the Holy Ghost to help me understand the feelings in my heart and the Lord's will for me. I know that it is something for all of us to have. Seek it and use it. Thank you for all of your support!

p.s. a quick recap of this last week...we had some crazy snow storms this past week that have been coming to us from So. CAl. it was way fun. It made it even more adventurous because until MOnday, we had a HUGE 3-way crack that spanned the whole windshield. Haha, that was a constant item in our prayers as we attempted to work in the slush and snow. We were supposed to get it repaired last week, but they didn't have the necessary parts. Haha, anyways, all is well. ByE!

Week 64 (Semi-Charmed... T.E.B.)

Hi all! I only have a quick moment this week, so here is some info about where I am now. My companion's name is Elder Knhaphus. (pronounced ka-nap-us) He is from Holiday, UT a suburb of SAlt Lake. He has been out 20 months. he's way nice. my guess is that i will either be here for 6 months to send him home and pass off the area to another guy, or I'll go down in 3 months to take a spot in Mesa. It is the only place where there will be a spanish opening for me. We live in a guest house of the stake Patriarch by a lil pond. We cover 4 wards and drive a mini-van. We go to the Snowflake temple up here and our Zone covers from clay springs to ST.Johns/Eager. Every lunch I get a free meal except for Sundays and Tuesdays. MOnday is Papa John's wednesday, quiznos, thursday is a ward mission leader named brother Tryon (pronounced try on this shirt), friday a local restaurant called grumpy jake's, saturday is dairy queen. So ya, that with a mixture of meals every night from members, i'm gonna have to watch myself. hehe. It is weird doing english work but there are a lot of good people here and I am excited to serve in this area at this time. I love all of you! I'll write more later! We have a baptism of a cool girl named Chastity this saturday. Bye!

Week 62 (So This Is the New Year... DcfC)

Hey! Happy New Year! I hope it was full of great love and hope for things to come. Surprisingly, on New Years and Christmas we were still expected to stay out until the normal 9 o'clock. While riding our bikes around 8:30 New Years Eve, we happened to contact someone on the street who turned out to be a referral that we were looking for. They turned out to be a family of 5. We stopped in for a quick visit and set up a time to come back. The Lord has been blessing us with situations like this lately. A lot of people that are solid and dedicated to knowing the truth are coming into our paths. I am really excited for what the next transfer holds for whoever stays. This new year is a great time to grow and improve and rededicate ourselves Spiritually, Mentally and Physically. It is always possible to improve and progress through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. If we center our hope and our focus in Him, joy and progress will be had on all other fronts. I love this work. I love to work. And I love this precious time to serve. Thanks for all of the love and support!
